[d]Project Autismo e Logopedia
Autism and Infantile Psychoses is, as the title suggests, a journey on hypertext through definitions, classifications, theories, treatments and other information. We like to refer to it as a journey because its main goal is to show the visitor of the site round the most significant contributions in the fields of theory, clinics, bibliography and operative approach to autism and infantile psychoses.
The hypertext aims at providing people interested in the subject (professionals, educators, and family members) with a reasoned map of the knowledge available up to this date, including the main contributions from literature and treatment methods. The hypertext also contains some useful information on the subject, such as the addresses of the most important specialist centres in Italy, Internet sites, tutorial courses and seminaries. You may also find in this section of the hypertext a document that summarize in a very synthetic way what autism is, what are its causes and how it can be treated. For those approaching this subject for their first time and those who want a neat global vision of it, it is better to start reading the hypertext from this section.
The section named Classifications and Definitions of Autism and Infantile Psychoses aims at identifying the subject matter of this study so that everybody can share the information contained. We refer here to the Development Pervasive Disorders group (according to the definition of the W.H.O ICD10). We also used the expression Infantile Psychoses because many professionals in this field still make use of it, even if it is no longer shared by the main classifications (ICD10 and DSM).
In the section named Concept of Infantile Psychoses, we discuss some of the most important attempts to explain Autism and Infantile Psychoses. Some publications are new, others are older. We tried to display the most complete range of publications, without taking into account that some of them are now considered outdated by the scientific community and the family associations. The same applies to the Treatments here described. We have described the most commonly known methods, regardless to whether they are outdated or not.
For every kind of treatment there is an annotated bibliography, which completes the general one.
There is also a section containing a series of Internet Sites, which offers the possibility of direct access, simply by clicking on the Site name (provided that you are connected to a server).
The Hypertext allows partial or total searches simply by clicking with the mouse on the subject matter of interest and paging through its links..
We hope that the hypertext will be able to provide a careful updating of both information and treatment of Autism and Infantile Psychoses. We would like to observe that the actual format and kind of information contained in the hypertext are temporary and will become increasingly detailed and complete with the contribution of anyone wanting to give advise. For this reason, you are invited to send us any new experience, information or anything you think could help in a scientific and effective way those people and families involved in this kind of mental disorder.
Please note: the hypertext is in Italian, only the homepage has been translated in English.
